What is an eBook?

The word "eBook" (sometimes written "e-Book") is short for "electronic book". It is a book that is distributed to readers in electronic form. Once the reader has received the book in electronic form, they can then read it on screen, or in some cases, may have the option to print it out.
  • Most eBooks electronic delivery is made in the form of a download, either to the reader's computer, or to a handheld device, such as a tablet, mobile phone, or to a specialized eBook reading device, such as a Kindle or Nook.

Please note: that because there are many different eBook file formats, not all eBooks will be compatible with all devices!

  • However. some eBooks are often to customers through a website. In such cases, the reader simply users their web-browser to read the particular website in question. In such cases, the website might be password-protected or restricted to "members", etc.

The advantage of this approach, is the author can revise the eBook at any time, and may also be able to interact with his readers (for example through a forum or online commenting). The disadvantage is of course that readers need an active internet connection to read the content.
Many eBooks simply model paper eBooks - static text and a few pictures - however there are also eBooks that take advantage of the extra features that are possible when processing information electronically. For example:
  • Some eBooks allow you to change the font size/appearance for easy reading.

  • Some eBooks include search options.

  • Some eBooks include clickable hyperlinks, either for navigating within the eBook, and/or for accessing related websites.

  • Some eBooks include animations, or interactive features such as quizzes.

  • Some eBooks even include audio or animation.
You can find eBooks on many different topics, including fiction, how-to guides, and reference material - many of which are listed on this website, eBookJungle.com. There is a whole world of information for you to enjoy and explore!
